ROOTS,RATS AND WORMS

This is to help people understand a small part of the world of sewers and the interactions of tree roots, rats, and worms and the o my is what they can do to sewer lines over time.
(Water is life) and all living things need it, and sewer lines have it, that's where its starts. Water is and will be life changing, with it life, with out death is sure to come.

People ask me how did the tree roots find my sewer line! I just say its looking for water, and it is, plus sewers have food that the tree needs, its so important to the tree I've seen roots follow sewer lines for hundreds of feet under and around the sewer line, the type of soil has a lot to do with it.

Rats, love them, hate them, I try to stay clear of them, I not like them much. But there after the same things as all living things are, and that is water, food and shelter. And sewer lines provide that for them and more, sewer lines are pathways and shopping malls. They will dig up to the surface and look for food, If you feed birds or squirrels they will find it, I've had home owners ask what is this hole in my lawn about! some have not known that its rats and some have not. when you see holes in your yard and if your house was built before 1970 its a good time to have a sewer scope done.
Worms are not good for sewer lines like roots and rats they will help break up the ground under the sewer pipe and it can let the pipe move and that will break the pipe.
It all starts with water leaking form the sewer lines, will post more from time to time.

 Thanks!

Following up on rat holes in lawns, The bird and squirrel food is not why they dig up your lawn its a pathway to your sewer line, so they can look for food and scavenge for what ever they can find at that location.
Rain drains tie in to sewer.
Its the hole in your sewer line that gives them the easiest and safest way to travel. The most common  way is a break in the clean out in the yard. Its for the rain drains to tie into the sewer line, and most of the time the clean out gets berried over, It takes years but most of them get covered over, and most home owners not know they have a clean out berried in there yard. The clean out is made of four inch concrete with a piece of cast iron pipe and a treaded top and the concrete pipe breaks.

Roots have penetrated in to sewer line
